SAADANI NATIONAL PARK

LOCATION

225 km north of Dar es Salaam.

Combine with Selous or Mikumi.

ABOUT THE PARK

Saadani is a rare coastal park where the bush meets the beach, giving a unique environment combining grasslands, forest and the shores of the Indian Ocean.  Game can be difficult to see but you may be rewarded with a rare glimpse of hippo or lion on the beach! We do not recommend it as a place for those ONLY wanting game drives, or for first time safari goers. It is a good alternative location for those wanting a beach holiday with a difference however!

WHAT TO DO

Game drives, walking safaris, camping safaris, lodge safaris, boat safaris on the Wami River, bird watching.

WHEN TO GO

Ideal game viewing: JUNE – MARCH. Can be inaccessible April and May.

Stay 1-3 nights.

NOTABLE WILDLIFE SIGHTINGS

Wildlife includes giraffe, zebra, warthog, hippo, buffalo, eland, waterbuck, reedbuck, hartebeest, wildebeest. Elephant, lion, leopard and hyena are present in the park but are very rare to see. It is a good location for birding and you will see flamingos at the river estuary. The beaches in Saadani are also an important nesting ground for the endangered marine green turtle.
