RUAHA NATIONAL PARK

 

LOCATION:

Central Tanzania, approximately 660km west of Dar es Salaam.

Combine with Selous, Mikumi, Udzungwa Mountains, Katavi or Serengeti.

 

ABOUT THE PARK

Ruaha is the largest National Park in the country, bigger even than the Serengeti (and yet still only about one third of the size of Selous Game Reserve). It offers an astonishing concentration of wildlife and visually stunning landscapes. However what you will take away from Ruaha more than anything are memories of magnificent elephant encounters. Gatherings of over 150 elephant in dried river beds have been seen as family groups come together.

Game drives, walking safaris, camping safaris, lodge safaris, bird watching.

 

WHEN TO GO

Ideal game viewing: JUNE – MARCH. Can visit all year round as there are good all weather roads in the park.

Stay at least 4 nights.

 

NOTABLE WILDLIFE SIGHTINGS

Present in Ruaha area all five of the great predators: lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, wild dog. The Ruaha ecosystem contains more antelope species than any other park and countless plains game. It is an excellent park for birding enthusiasts as well, with numerous migrant and endemic species present. Ruaha also offers the best elephant, lion, leopard and cheetah sightings in the south of Tanzania. You will also see buffalo, grants gazelle, roan, greater and lesser kudu, clipspringers, hartebeest, ostrich, oribi, bat-eared fox, hippos and crocodiles.
