MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK

 

LOCATION

300km west of Dar es Salaam.

Combine with Ruaha, Selous, Udzungwa Mountains or the Spice Islands of Zanzibar or Mafia.

 

ABOUT THE PARK

The park is very accessible, and the all-weather roads are passable throughout the rains making it a great all year round safari destination. While it is a smaller park, it is part of the Selous ecosystem so benefits from high game density. The open savannahs are surrounded by mountains making for great vistas and dramatic skies. Wildlife comes close to your car so keep your cameras on hand for excellent wildlife photos.

Game drives, walking safaris, fly camping, lodge safaris, bird watching.

 

WHEN TO GO

Ideal game viewing: JUNE – MARCH. Can visit all year round as there are good all weather roads in the park.

Stay 1-3 nights.

 

NOTABLE WILDLIFE SIGHTINGS

Wildlife is plentiful with elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, impala, eland, jackal, warthog, baboon, hippo and crocodiles. With two days in the park you have good chance to see lion, and maybe a glimpse of a leopard.
