Your Home in the Wild

Authentic Tanzania Safaris believes in comfortable camping! We set up unpretentious safari camps with each location being hand-selected right in the heart of the parks to ensure excellent wildlife encounters.

Exclusive and private camps

If you are looking for a truly private adventure in wild places, Authentic Tanzania Safaris is renowned for setting up private camps in some of the most remote areas of Tanzania. These private camps are exclusively tailored for each group in a hand-selected area, where wildlife is plentiful but people are not. With absolutely no permanent structures, these camps retain the feel of the old explorers, while not compromising on comfort. Your camp is fully mobilised prior to your arrival, and demobilised after the final game drive with absolutely no footprint remaining. It is an environmentally conscious way to stay in the parks as well as adventurous and personalized – so be prepared for a truly mobile and authentic camp experience.

Permanent and shared camps

With the new season of 2017-18 our two main mobile camps, Selous Maji Moto  and Ruaha Kilimatonge , are now open on a seasonal basis for 9 months of the year. In each location, we will have 4 tents permanently stationed. Safari tents are laid out with twin wooden beds and thick mattresses, that can be converted into a double. The tents have been lovingly designed in a true safari style and come with en-suite bathrooms. The camp facilities include an open sided dining tent; a shaded lounge area around the camp fire as well as several reading areas where you can quietly immerse yourself in the beautiful wilderness surrounding you. Solar charging points provide power and solar lighting is used throughout the camp.

Mobile expedition and fly camps

Fly camping is an amazing way to get out into the heart of the bush and explore it intensely, especially if you are interested in walking safaris. The lightweight camps can get you in reach of areas that fixed camps cannot. Our fly camps are operated with smaller tents, less furniture and have a very adventurous bush camp feel. The camps move regularly and have to be carried by porters or in small vehicles, so we strip out many of the luxuries you would find in our other safari camps. There are no wooden beds, but comfortable stretcher beds instead. The toilets are not en-suite, but you can still expect a hot bucket shower arrangement in a nearby tree with privacy and a great view. Pit latrines are dug at each location. Chefs accompany the camp assistants and porters and they carry a lightweight kitchen to prepare your meals over an open fire each night. The camps are set up on-demand for private groups who have a walking focus! You should expect a very adventurous safari in the style of the old explorers.
