WHO WE ARE

Authentic Tanzania Safaris is a family business, set up in 2004 and run by husband and wife team Sven and Emily Liebchen, with the unwavering support of Muba leading Operations and Tina in Reservations.

Sven is an expert guide with professional guiding licences from across Africa. He champions walking safaris and the concept of comfortable camps in extreme wilderness locations was his. Sven trains all our guides and our camp crew to ensure the highest of standards on your Tanzanian walking and camping safari.

Our office team is based in Dar es Salaam, where our workshop mechanics expertly maintain our fleet of safari vehicles and supply trucks. Tina and Muba ensure that our guides have everything they need for each safari, whether it be a welcome bottle of champagne for a honeymoon safari, or a bean bag to rest a camera on for safari photography enthusiasts. They note food preferences and make sure the camping teams have personalised the menus accordingly. Hearty lunches and three course dinners are whipped up to your specific timing and taste.

Our camping safari crew set up, maintain, service and move your camps as required. They ensure showers are hot, tents are clean and bug free, pillows are plumped, beds are turned down and your laundry is done. They prepare your camp fire and take turns on watch throughout the night.

Our safari guides are Tanzanian and speak excellent English, German and French (among others). We employ our guides all year round rather than rely on day hire drivers. They have each been trained up rigorously by Sven to become expert bush warriors - they know their way around the parks intimately and take you to the best spots for observing wildlife. They can point out a leopard in the distance even at dusk, and will tell you the history of lion prides you encounter. While seeking out the big five, they will open your eyes to plains game, birds, flora and much more.
