SAFARI ITINERARY – 7 DAY

With a week on safari, we recommend you focus on one of the larger parks / reserves to avoid feeling rushed. Here we highlight an itinerary with Ruaha, you can however substitute Selous as well if you prefer this.

Day 1                        Mikumi National Park

On arrival in Dar es Salaam you will be met by your guide and driven to Mikumi. Enjoy an afternoon game drive as you get close to Giraffe, Zebra, Elephant, Buffalo, Impala, Wildebeest, Eland and Warthog. Overnight in a lodge – choose a lodge outside the park for those on a restricted budget.

Day 2                        Mikumi National Park

Have a full day of game drive as you explore the park. The all-weather roads are passable throughout the rains so it is a great all year round safari destination. An excellent place for close up encounters with lion, and you’ll have a great chance to see the very shy leopard. The open savannahs are surrounded by mountains making for great vistas and dramatic skies. Watch the sun set over the hippo pools then return to your lodge accommodation.

Days 3 to 5            Ruaha National Park

You will leave after breakfast and then head onto the road for a picturesque drive through baobab filled valleys and up the Iringa escarpment to Ruaha National Park (5 hours). On arrival, you will be oriented to camp and have a safety briefing before lunch. Continue your game drive in the afternoon and on following days as you explore more of the park. See predators hunting, massive concentrations of antelope and plains game, breathtaking landscapes and magnificent elephant encounters. One day, go on a guided walking safari with a park ranger and your guide. Follow the tracks of animals and watch them graze from safe distances. Accommodation is provided at Authentic Tanzania Kilimatonge Camp.

Day 6                        Morogoro Chili Farm

Leave the camp early with a packed breakfast and a picnic lunch. Explore the craft market in Iringa and then make your way down the Rift Valley escarpment to and through Mikumi to Morogoro. Relax at your cottage on this working chilli farm. Explore the farm and see how the chillies are prepared, and taste the delicious hibiscus jam or herbal teas also produced on the farm. Cool off in the pool before a sunset bird walk and dinner served on your veranda.

Day 7                        Dar es Salaam

After breakfast and a final dip in the pool, you will be transferred back to Dar es Salaam by your guide. SAFARI ENDS.
